Adieu Angelina (Singer: Nana Mouskouri)
Adieu Angelina
Songwriter: Bob Dylan (Adapted By Hugues Aufray, Pierre Delanoë)
[Lyrics from Musixmatch]
Wikipedia states:
"Farewell Angelina" is a song written by Bob Dylan in the mid-1960s, and most famously recorded by Joan Baez.
According to Bob Dylan: All the Songs, an 1850s Scottish sailors' song by George Scroggie titled Farewell to Tarwathie provided the skeleton of the song's melody. That song, in turn, had been inspired by the old traditional tune, Wagoner's Lad.
Joan Baez included this song on her 1965 album Farewell Angelina. In the UK the song was issued at the same time as a single. Baez' version, though only about half as long as Dylan's recording, was very similar in structure and showed her moving away from pure folk music with the use of string bass accompaniment.
Pierre Delanoë and Hugues Aufray translated it into French under the title Adieu Angelina, which itself has been recorded many times. This French version of the song has been recorded by Nana Mouskouri (who also sang a version in German).
Ioanna "Nana" Mouskouri (Greek: Ιωάννα "Νάνα" Μούσχουρη) (born 13 October 1934) is a Greek singer. Over the span of her career, she has released over 200 albums in at least twelve languages, including Greek, French, English, German, Dutch, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Hebrew, Welsh, Mandarin Chinese and Corsican.

How can it first have appeared on an album in 1969 if it first appeared on _Signals Through the Glass_ in 1968? That's where I knew the song from. Pretty similar performances. Unless you just mean *this* performance. Personally, I liked _Signals_ a lot better than this album, but _Bloodlines_ was pretty fine, as were some of his later albums, too.

Not long ago a New York Times article criticized the west coast left for being all about idealism while not caring much about actual results. This song seems an anthem to that when you look at present day San Francisco. Just put a flower in your hair and all the world’s problems will go away. It figures too that musicians without any life skills other than making music would be at the forefront of any movement that firmly believes this. San Francisco is a prisoner locked in an ethos that ignores reality, dumbly clings to its past, and expects somehow that armed with an ideal alone life will be good. They say San Francisco can no longer call itself a progressive city. The streets are still littered with wilted flowers that no one has bothered to clean up.

Nancy Sinatra covered it, and it was pretty good. Lindsey Buckingham covered it years later and keeps to the spirit of the original song as he came of age during that time anyway.
